We have worked with numerous clients that have watched popular programs on TV and decided to coat their garage floor by themselves. While this is a cost-savings way to coat your floor at first, more often than not these floors chip, peel, and crack in 1-2 years…even with the professional-grade product. The cost savings quickly depletes when the product doesn’t stand up and must be reapplied. Why is this?
There are several reasons why these floors do not last, but one of the primary reasons is the cleaning/prepping of the surface of the floor. While DIY products many times recommend an acid wash on the floor, the best way to prep the surface is to grind the floor or shot blast the floor to remove the top layer of concrete. In addition, you want to make sure you fill in any cracks or gaps properly to create a nice surface.
Another BIG reason is the quality of the product. While many brands that can be purchased off the shelf claim to be professional-grade, they are not as durable or long-lasting as our products. Our floors are built for the long haul and are industrial grade. The topcoat has extreme chemical and scratch resistance. Once cured, these coatings are permanent.
The most significant reason to hire a pro like Columbus Garage Flooring is that we stand behind our work. We truly create beautiful floors that last a lifetime!
